Common questions

What does calibration do?

Every machine cuts holes a bit under or oversized (at least mine do!), and it's different on each one. Calibration tells FitCheck how far off yours is, so the app can automatically correct every number it shows you. Toggle between your machines to apply each one's offset, or switch to no machine for the raw standard values.

How do I calibrate a machine?

  1. Download the free tolerance tests here, and select either the FDM test or CNC test.

  2. Print or mill the tolerance test on the machine you want to dial in

    • For FDM printers, use the FitCheck FDM Tolerance Test, which has 3 Ø5.00 mm holes.

    • For CNC machines, use the FitCheck CNC Tolerance Test, which has 3 Ø8.00 mm holes. (8 mm leaves room for larger collets and bits, and reads more precisely on calipers).

  3. Measure the holes with calipers.

    • Measure each one twice, rotating the calipers 90° between readings, and average them all — printed and cut holes are rarely perfectly round.

  4. Add the machine in FitCheck and enter the diameter you measured. That's it

    • FitCheck derives the machine's error itself and corrects every dimension it shows you from then on.

Calibrating a machine is free to try. Saving it — so its offset is applied every time you open the app — is the FitCheck Pro feature.
